GCE was founded on the belief that education is the key to a more empowered, tolerant, and peaceful world. We operate with a philosophy of partnering and investing, not creating dependency through charity.

Our Mission

The Global Community for Education is a grassroots organization dedicated to furthering education in those parts of the world where the community simply has no resources to provide education. GCE does not provide charity, it invests in people who are willing to work for the betterment of their children and their communities. Our investments yield not dollars, but a more educated, better world. 100% of donations received go directly to our projects – all administrative, fundraising, and other costs are paid personally by GCE Founder Don Wilks or provided by corporate donors.

Current Initiatives

GCE began its mission building schools, and we built four of them to serve previously under-served children. Our next focus was improving those schools, and we added facilities such as libraries, computer labs, and science labs. Our support and investment in our schools continues, but today our main initiative is our Higher Education Scholarship Program.

Scholarships

GCE provides two scholarship programs for exceptionally bright and eager students:

GCE College Scholarship Program

Since 2014, GCE has awarded 224 scholarships to students to attend Grades 11 and 12 (higher education levels in Nepal). Most of our students attend college in Kathmandu.

Putting a student through higher education an unbelievable bargain in Nepal: a donation of $50 a month covers all tuition, fees, book, and other educational related expenses for the school year.

GCE University Scholarship Program

GCE inaugurated its University Scholarship Program in 2016 with the matriculation of three bright students. Since then, GCE has awarded 65 scholarships to university students.

University costs are affordable: University costs are affordable: a university sponsorship for a full academic year is only $80 per month to sponsor a student for a full academic year.

Our Story

It all started with a trek to Mt. Everest in 2000, an investment in a young man’s education, and his “Pay it Forward” dream of a primary school in remote Khari, Nepal. Now, hundreds of educated children later, there is GCE.
